A contentious penalty enabled Liverpool to beat Arsenal 4-2 in the second leg of their quarterfinal match at Anfield.
Arsenal took the game away from Liverpool in the opening minutes, with their midfield making typical neat passes and they were rewarded for it when Abou Diaby fired past Reina from an awkward angle in the 13th minute.
Even though the midfield was amazing, Arsenal were not too good defensively.
Half an Hour later, Hyypia headed in a Gerrard corner, after Senderos failed to mark him.
Just into the second half, the Arsenal defenders gave Torres too much room, allowing him to smack a stunning shot past Almunia, who had no clue as to where the ball was going.
But the match was not over yet. Theo Walcott stole the ball from Gerrard, and then made a magnificent 80 yard run, tearing apart the defence, and passed the ball to Adebayor, who finished it to help Arsenal draw level in the 84th minute.
Just seconds later, the referee gave a dubious penalty decision against Toure after Ryan Babel fell down in the penalty box. An almost identical decision went against Arsenal the last time around, only that this time Toure wasn't even touching Babel!!! Steven Gerrard took the opportunity and scored.
The match was not over yet, as Liverpool made sure of their Semifinal berth when an Arsenal corner kick found Ryan Babel, who took the ball and ran all the way to the Arsenal goal, and got the ball past Almunia in stoppage time.
Flamini was stretchered of during the match and was replaced by Gilberto Silva. This adds to Arsenal's already huge injury list. Rosicky will not be able to play for the rest of the season and even for the EURO 2008.
Once again, the referee has played a major role in Arsenal's failure in the recent matches. The standards have gone down to an all time low, as because of the referees, Arsenal have managed only 2 wins in 12 matches!!!
There goes the Champions League, down the drain:(
