We haven't brought in a single player yet(except for our on-loan players and a few youngsters).
No big names, no good playmakers, no nothing. Samir Nasri has been linked with a move to Arsenal since the last one month, but now Wenger says that he will join only after Euro 2008!! AAAARGH!!!
On the bright side, Arsenal are literally running after David Villa after his club Valencia made him available for 17 million euros!!!
Tottenham and Arsenal are expected to go head to head to sign up the 26 year old Spanish striker.
Villa had previously expressed his desire to join Arsenal, praising Wenger's coaching methods. Even Fabregas had clearly said on the Cesc Fabregas Show that if he wanted anyone to come to Arsenal, it would have to be David Villa. Reports in Spain suggest that Chelsea and Real Madrid are also in the running. Valencia are currently short of cash and want to sell a player quickly. Even though they won the Copa del Rey this year, they got knocked out of the Champions League in the group stages and were nearly relegated. Villa is definitely not happy with his club and is looking forward to joining Arsenal, as their style of play suits his.
In other news, the betrayer Freddie Ljunberg has trashed Arsene Wenger so much, it seems he actually joined West Ham to take revenge over the Gunners!! Not a great career decision though, as first of all, he got offers from Italy at that time, which he refused. Second of all, West Ham definitely does not have the capacity to win trophies like Arsenal. Well actually, all West Ham has the capacity to do is fight it out with the teams in the relegation zone!! But I doubt if he had stayed back at Arsenal and stayed injury-free, he would get into the starting 11!!
The highly promising Argentine midfielder Lautaro Acosta has revealed that he had snubbed Arsenal's offer to join his dream club Sevilla. He joined last weekend for a cool 5 million euros!------------>
Arsenal has failed in it's bid to sign Udinese player Cristian Zapata. Arsene Wenger bid 12 million euros for the 21 year old, but Udinese refused, stating that they wouldn't take anything less than 20 million euros for the player. He's got 4 years remaining on his contract and is the centre of attraction of Jueventus, Milan and Fiorentina.
Finally, we bid farewell to one of Arsenal's greatest goalkeepers- Jens Lehmann. The 37 year old German has left Arsenal for Stuttgart on a free transfer, and is now preparing for the German Euro 2008 campaign. He said that he and his family enjoyed life in London, and he thanked Arsenal for making him a better goalkeeper.
FAREWELL LEHMANN!! THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU'VE DONE FOR ARSENAL!!
