Euro 2008: Group A - (07/06/2008)Switzerland 0-1 Czech Republic

The Czechs got their tournament off to a flying start via Vaclav Sverkos's 70th minute goal against the Euro 2008 co-hosts, Switzerland.

Czech Republic weren't in their best form, which was shown during their passing and team-work.

Many chances were blown by both sides, as the Swiss kept mounting the pressure. The Swiss defence did an amazing job of keeping the ball away from their goal, when Baros and Koller were threatening to score. Cech was as usual brilliant as nothing could go past him. One error made by the Swiss defence gave away the whole match. After they seemed to have warded of a Czech corner, the Swiss moved forward with the ball, only to lose it to a Czech player who headed it straight to Sverkos. Sverkos made room and fired a low shot which passed the goalkeeper into the right side of the net.

Tomáš Ujfaluši gave a stellar performance and was awarded Carlsberg Man of the match.
